Dress Codes for Worship

I Corinthians 10:23-31
Do All to the Glory of God
23 “All things are lawful,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful,” but not all things build up. 24 Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor. 25 Eat whatever is sold in the meat market without raising any question on the ground of conscience. 26 For “the earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof.” 27 If one of the unbelievers invites you to dinner and you are disposed to go, eat whatever is set before you without raising any question on the ground of conscience. 28 But if someone says to you, “This has been offered in sacrifice,” then do not eat it, for the sake of the one who informed you, and for the sake of conscience— 29 I do not mean your conscience, but his. For why should my liberty be determined by someone else's conscience? 30 If I partake with thankfulness, why am I denounced because of that for which I give thanks?
31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 32 Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God, 33 just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved.

What constitutes proper attire for worship is obviously a topic that is much debated and will continue to be debated for a long time to come. Let us each search out the Scriptures and dress intentionally, according to our convictions based upon study, prayer, and the counsel of godly men and women. God's dress code for worship is holiness. May we each be adorning ourselves in Christ's righteousness every day and with the attire we believe to be most honoring to Him.Posted by Picasa

I have always dressed up as nicely as I can for church. If I was going to a dinner party, or such like (not that I do very often), I would not turn up in scruffy clothes as I believe it would dishonour the person who had invited me. It would be as if the occasion was not important to me. What is more important than worshipping God with our bretheren? To make an effort, to show that it is an important occasion.

It isn't a law of course. I just think that we should honour God by being both modestly and nicely attired when worshipping God. We may not have expensive clothes (flashy would not be appropriate), but to be clean and respectful is most important.

In fact I even believe that outside of church, as Christians, we should make an effort to always be presentable.

Although, I do often have the misfortune of finding a bit of baby-rusk attached to my skirt or top courtesy of my youngest! lol.

We like to dress our best to come before the Lord. Unfortunately the dress standards for worship are slipping at our church - wearing jeans (even ladies) and ugg boots (a type of footwear associated with pyjamas). Sometimes we need to be reminded of the holiness and awesomeness of God. I'm sure once people understood this they would not dress in such a casual manner.
